Last week, Will, Bella and I got to head up to Flagstaff (one of my favorite places) for the first time since I’ve been pregnant. It’s literally 15-25 degrees cooler than Phoenix at any given moment. Can I get a hallelujah?!
If you are a hiker, I highly recommend Flagstaff in the summer. The hikes are absolutely beautiful. The forest is just a magical place. I mean the Aspens! Gasp. They are just the most beautiful trees, and they make such a pretty sound when the wind blows through them. It almost sounds like applause. So cool!
Anyway, this trip we went on Veit Springs Trail aka Lamar Haines Loop. It was the first time I had been on this trail, and… It has pictographs! Totally going to geek out for a minute, but I have never seen pictographs before in person. It’s an almost surreal experience. There right in front of me, on the same rocks I am touching, are drawings from an ancient people. I’m a big history nerd, so this is right up my alley. But, it was really wonderful to touch a part of ancient history. Things like that always make me wonder. What were they saying? What was the purpose of these drawings? Who were these people? What were they like? Did they have families? How did they live? If you are a history buff, I highly recommend checking out the various hikes in Flagstaff with pictographs and petroglyphs.
We also got to try out our new Osprey Pack that was an amazing gift from some friends. Bella wasn’t sure of it at first, but once Will put it on her back she LOVED it. If you are an avid hiking family with a little one under 40 pounds, you have got to get this pack!
I personally love hiking. It centers me. Puts everything in perspective. My ideas start flowing. My body feels great. Will and I always have the best talks on hikes too. Disclaimer though, Veit Springs is more of a walk than a hike. It is ridiculously easy. However there are a lot of great places to take pictures, you can take dogs on the trail, and it is absolutely gorgeous. Even if you prefer hard hikes, I highly recommend checking it out at least once because it is so peaceful and pretty.
Fun times. Have you been to see the pictographs yet? What did you think?
